Halifax, Nova Scotia
Family SOS is a local non-profit, child-centered organization focused on building strong and healthy families. Based in Halifax North, the Family SOS team delivers programs and services in our city’s most vulnerable areas - from in-home parenting support to our beehive youth-led social enterprise project. Motivated by the children, youth and parents they serve, this is an energetic, team-like environment.
On behalf of Family SOS, we are seeking a creative, energetic and passionate Executive Director to work with the Board of Directors, and provide leadership to the organization and staff.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED has overall strategic and operational responsibility for Family SOS staff, programs, expansion, and execution of our mission. Key responsibilities include program development and administration, allowing for the optimal use of organizational finances, staff and resources. This individual will also provide financial leadership by managing budgets and monitoring long-term strategic fiscal plans. The ED will be thoroughly committed to the organization’s mission, while possessing passion, idealism, integrity, and a positive attitude. An organizational champion, you will actively engage and energize volunteers, board members, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations and funders. This is a very exciting time for the organization, as the ED will have the opportunity to work very closely with the Board of Directors in developing the vision and strategic plan to guide the organization into the future.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter with extraordinary interpersonal skills who can prioritize and deliver desired outcomes in a timely manner. The ED will be optimistic and versatile, as this position requires frequent change and flexibility. The ED will have the ability to create and lead a vibrant team environment with staff, the Board and other stakeholders to achieve organizational objectives. A practical and results-oriented individual, the ED values feedback and the opportunity to mentor others. The new incumbent will need to step into this leadership role quickly and thoughtfully, with a particular focus on building relationships and mentoring staff.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience within a not-for profit organization in leadership positions. Excellence in organizational management with proven ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget is a must. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and written skills, marketing/public relations skills, fund development experience, knowledge of financial management, and a true passion for community issues.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity to help shape the community and direction of Family SOS. Interested candidates can contact Shardeigh McGillivray via Shardeigh@venor.ca or 902.405.8846
