Our client, an entrepreneurial company in Newfoundland and Labrador recognized as a top mine operator and resource developer in Atlantic Canada, is seeking a General Manager to join their operations as they embark on a planned expansion of the existing mine and mill operations. The current life of mine extends to 20+ years with further opportunity for growth through exploration.
The General Manager will be an operational leader with high safety standards and member of the Executive team, contributing to the strategic planning of the company. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of the Company’s three main sites, ensuring key operating and budgetary milestones are achieved. Providing support to expansion projects as they arise will also be a key responsibility. The General Manager will assist with the preparation of annual operational and project related budgets and approve commitments on expenditure and payments of creditors.
The successful candidate will develop and enhance relationships between the Company and community by ensuring all stakeholders including local municipal authorities are informed on production milestones and project initiatives. S/he will be a champion of continued improvement of Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures by leading staff, employees and subcontractors towards a continued culture of safety and operating effectiveness.
The ideal candidate will have a B.Sc. Mine Engineering, registration or eligibility for registration with PEGNL, and 15+ years of engineering and/or mine production experience in underground hard rock operations. However, candidates with extensive leadership experience in other mining operations and academic qualifications will be considered.
