Production Manager

Sustane Technologies Inc. is a clean technology company focused on waste transformation. Sustane has developed and is commercializing a set of disruptive processes to transform municipal solid waste (MSW) streams into high value fuels and recyclable materials.

Sustane's core concept is the complete separation of MSW and their technology breakthrough delivers pure products that were not previously possible.  The result is unprecedented value recovery and waste diversion levels with the potential to practically eliminate landfills in the future. Sustane believes that current consumption and waste patterns are simply not sustainable and that we must fundamentally challenge how we sustain ourselves on this planet.

Their first North American facility will be coming on line in Chester, Nova Scotia, in the Spring of 2018. This facility has a capacity of 70,000 tonnes per year of MSW. On behalf of Sustane, we are recruiting a Production Manager for this new facility.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day to day operations and maintenance of the facility. You will provide leadership and guidance to employees to ensure production and quality goals are achieved while maintaining a safe work environment.  You will be accountable for all production outputs and allocate resources effectively to fully utilize all assets and resources to produce optimal results. You will identify areas for continuous improvement and develop systems and processes that monitor and optimize productivity, cost savings, metrics and performance targets and any potential risks that may contribute to the long term strategic plans.

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise and motivate the operations and maintenance teams.
  • Devise and manage schedules, shifts and vacation coverage.
  • Develop and oversee operating plans and budgets.
  • Take a leadership role in the development and implementation of the safety program.
  • Developing strong relationships with suppliers.
  • Develop and oversee the maintenance plan.
  • Manage material flows including MSW, recyclable outputs, fuel products and rejected materials.Identify training needs and manage training programs.
  • Ensuring a high level of housekeeping and cleanliness of operating areas.
  • Review worker performance.

As the successful candidate, you have 5+ years of proven leadership experience in a production environment, combined a with technical diploma/degree (a 2nd class stationary engineer certification would be advantageous). You have excellent planning, organization, communication and team building skills. You are systems oriented and are knowledgeable of management processes, budget development and MS Office tools and other software programs. You are experienced in implementing lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles and stay current with the latest production management best practices.
