On their behalf, we are seeking an Assistant Director, Athletics & Recreation to provide management, administration and coordination for the athletic facility operations and programming. The Assistant Director provides oversight for all aspects of the day-to-day operations, events and financial administration of the Homburg Centre including long term financial planning for Athletics and Recreation. Reporting to the Director, Athletics and Recreation, you will assist in the development and implementation of both annual and strategic plans for programs, facilities, and resources to offer quality service to clients and participants at all levels.
The Assistant Director supervises 3 full time staff and part time student employees. As a leader, the Assistant Director will demonstrate vision, inspire confidence, encourage participation and instill education for institution and personal professional goals. You will assign tasks, monitor their performance, provide training and development, complete probationary reports, initiate disciplinary actions and train the staff. You will be responsible for all appropriate financial systems and ensure policy and procedures are followed, including monitoring daily transactions and daily and monthly revenues. Assisting with budget preparation for the department, you will take action to correct variances and bring any deviations to the Director. As the Assistant Director, you will coordinate and develop programs and the daily operation schedule for the Centre including maintenance, inspection and repair of the facilities and equipment. This requires participating on design/construction/operations committee to assist and advise the Director with the assessment of the facility. You will manage risk in the area of compliance and work to manage it in regard to safety, health and well-being of all student, staff and SMU visitors.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in Business or Athletic Administration accompanied with 5 years experience in a related field. Your experience includes supervising in a unionized environment, budget and entrepreneurial experience. You have a understanding of AUS and USport policies and a strong working knowledge of financial statements and accounting practices. You have advanced First Aid/CPR or are willing to obtain it. As a skilled communicator and organizer, you strive to drive change in an organization. Schedule flexibility is also a necessity.
