Environmental, Health & Safety Manager
On behalf of our client, a mining organization, we are seeking a Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to provide functional support with emphasis on employee safety performance and elimination/reduction of hazards exposures and risks.
The successful candidate will implement the Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS) Policy and the management of the system while driving company initiatives and continuous improvement in EHS performance. You will ensure regulatory compliance with all federal and provincial environmental, health/safety and security regulations and for the reporting of all internal/external requirements. Maintaining a professional relationship with MOL, you will secure an essential cooperative atmosphere for continuous improvement for health and safety matters. As part of the Joint Health and Safety committee, you will participate and administer meetings and manage all training activities for employee, contractors and visitors. You will manage the workers compensation program through WSIB, site security and site loss prevention programs. This position also provides oversight for 3 or more direct reports.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in health & safety or related technical/science field accompanied with 5-10 years related experience in the surface/underground mining industry. You possess a working knowledge of Ontario OHSA and MOL and a recognized safety certification by an accredited association would be preferred. With a proven track record in the implementation and continuous improvement of safety management systems, you have experience with these programs including compliance with safety standards, incident investigation and root cause analysis. As a leader, you enjoy and mentoring your direct reports to ensure their development. You set challenging goals and develop strategies to achieve them using your resourcefulness, optimism and passion. As a skilled communicator, you effectively communicate your message to mobilize and motivate others to influence behavioral-based safety programs. You are a planner who can shift priorities when needed without sacrificing quality.
