Senior Accountant

Halifax, Nova Scotia

As a member of a professional and growing real estate management company, you will be responsible for the full cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial and residential properties.  You will work closely with the both the Accounting Manager and accounting support staff.  You must be able to prioritize, coordinate, and organize business tasks.  You will have a positive, professional approach in planning, scheduling, communicating, and organizing the activities of your position.  You will work directly under the supervision of the Accounting Manager and as such, must be able to develop an understanding of the nature of their work and relationships in order to anticipate their needs. 

The day to day role is as follows but is not limited to:

Job Description:

  • Financial statement preparation
  • Monthly reporting for multiple entities
  • Variance analysis
  • General ledger maintenance
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Accounts receivable
  • Accounts payable
  • Budget preparation
  • Year end audit preparation
  • Annual recovery calculations
  • Additional accounting/special project work as required

Education requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant area of study (Accounting, Business, etc)

Experience required:

  • 5+ years full cycle accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and controls
  • Advanced skill in Excel, working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Superior organization and time management skills
  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage several tasks at one time in a deadline driven environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Personable, pleasant demeanor

Experience Preferred

  • Property Accounting experience
  • Proficient in the use of property management software
