Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) Manager

On behalf of our client MacKinnon and Olding (M&O), a Crosbie Group Limited member company, we are currently seeking a HSEQ Manager to be based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. M&O’s core business includes scaffolding, surface preparation, painting/coatings, insulation and flooring; with more than 30 years’ experience, M&O is the leading marine contractor on the east coast of Canada.
Reporting to the Group Vice-President, M&O and with discipline specific reporting to the Vice-President HSEQ Crosbie Group, the HSEQ Manager will actively manage and promote the company’s HSEQ Management Systems. Demonstrating the highest level of health, safety, environment and quality leadership you will drive organizational change at all levels, leading the development of a “Safety First” culture and mindset across all operations and client sites. You will provide daily management and support to the HSEQ team members and ensure compliance with HSEQ Management systems and programs. Together with the HSEQ team members you will support on-site staff in actioning and managing both Total Management System and Safety Management System requirements, while overseeing and maintaining accountability for these systems. Monitoring organizational HSEQ performance, you will compile relevant data to conduct timely trend analysis and reporting, identifying areas of success and improvement and devising action plans to identified gaps. You will prepare and deliver HSEQ presentations for various audiences and proactively interface with client representatives, sub-contractors, third parties and regulatory agencies.
The HSEQ Manager will lead the continuous review, interpretation and application of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality regulatory requirements and the review of programs and policies to ensure they reflect “Best Practices” and safety leadership for our clients. Leading and conducting accident/incident Investigations, you will use Root Cause Analysis programs including comprehensive actions and opportunities for improvement. You will manage and investigate non-conformances and improvement opportunity notifications with a view to ensure relevant and timely action items and conduct HSEQ Audits and Inspections. Other duties include overseeing delivery of HSEQ portion of onboarding, providing support to contract bidding processes, conducting Risk Assessments/Process Hazard Analysis and ensuring compliance with various client HSEQ Management Systems.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, and be able to use your ability to persuade and influence team members to engage in a proactive organizational culture of quality and safety. You will be an excellent time manager, effectively planning and consulting with stakeholders to ensure timely and responsive actions to identified opportunities and challenges. You will possess a logical thought process, demonstrating analytical and organizational abilities to address situations as they arise to ensure effective service delivery that surprises and delights our customers.
The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary education in Occupational Health, Safety, Quality or a related field, accompanied with 10+ years safety and quality experience and 7+ years in a safety leadership role in an industrial or marine environment. You have a CRSP designation and have completed training in Internal and/or Lead Auditor and Taproot (or similar Root Cause Analysis training). Experience with the ISO 9001-205 standard would be an asset.
