Senior Investment Associate

The Halifax Regional Municipality Pension Plan Office is a busy and growing office dedicated to the effective operation of a $1.9 billion pension plan serving approximately 10,000 members.

On their behalf, we are inviting applications to fill a full-time position for a Senior Investment Associate. This role is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia and reports to the Manager, Private Investments.

The HRM Pension Plan has approximately $2.0 billion in assets under management of which more than $700 million is invested in private equity, private credit, infrastructure and real estate. The Plan is a sophisticated international institutional investor that commits capital via primary funds, co-investments and secondary transactions. The Senior Investment Associate will be responsible to provide analytical support to the investment team, with a particular focus on private market investments.

The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for investing which is demonstrated by an ability to deliver high quality work. You will track and monitor existing private investments, working with external legal/tax counsel to negotiate contracts. You will perform investment and operational due diligence on new primary, secondary and co-investment opportunities across private equity, private credit, infrastructure and real estate. As well as providing input with respect to private investments for quarterly investment performance and compliance purposes.

The ideal candidate will have experience as an institutional investment manager or similar, a focus on private market investments would certainly be ideal. Those with prior experience in other investment roles or within valuation, transaction services, consulting or audit will also be considered.

A Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, economics or similar is required. A post graduate education such as a Master in Finance or progress towards the CFA or CAIA designation certainly would be an asset.
