General Manager

Venor is proud to partner with our client L&A Metalworks in their search for a General Manager for their manufacturing facility in Fredericton, NB.

L&A Metalworks Inc. is a trusted metal fabricator serving a select group of OEMs that supply critical infrastructure to industrial clients—including oil refineries and power-generating plants. With a reputation for precision and reliability, L&A manufactures complex, made-to-print process systems designed for gas flow diversion and pollution extraction.

The General Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for L&A Metalworks, overseeing all aspects of the business — from shop floor performance and project delivery to business development and financial health. This role is responsible for upholding the company’s legacy of quality craftsmanship while driving sustainable growth and ensuring L&A remains a trusted partner for contractors, utilities, engineering firms, and municipalities across North America.

What you’ll be doing:

• Set and execute the company’s strategic direction, annual business plan, and long-term growth objectives
• Lead and support a senior team including project managers, estimators, operations, and finance
• Oversee project portfolio performance, ensuring on-time delivery, budget adherence, and client satisfaction
• Champion L&A’s quality assurance culture and ensure compliance with all certifications (CWB, CSA, ASME, CISC, Controlled Goods)
• Build and maintain relationships with key clients, contractors, engineering firms, and government agencies
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities across target industries and geographies
• Monitor financial performance, approve major expenditures, and report to ownership on results
• Ensure a safe, skilled, and engaged workforce, support retention of experienced tradespeople and supervisors
• Represent L&A Metalworks in industry associations, client meetings, and with regulatory bodies

What we are looking for:

• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience, ideally in metal fabrication, manufacturing, or heavy industrial construction
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a project-driven environment
• Strong understanding of steel, stainless steel, and aluminum fabrication processes; familiarity with welding standards (CSA, AWS, ASME) is a strong asset
• Proven track record in business development and client relationship management
• Financial acumen with experience managing P&L and capital planning
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Post-secondary education in engineering, business, or a related field preferred
