Power BI Report Developer

Venor is proud to partner with Seaboard Armour Transportation and Logistics in their search for a Power BI Report Developer to join their team.

Seaboard Armour Transportation and Logistics is a premier North American transportation and logistics leader. What began in 1964 as a regional, family-owned petroleum delivery operation in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, has grown into a coast-to-coast group of companies with over 60 years of success. Recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies and an industry Employer of Choice, Seaboard Armour delivers safe, reliable, and innovative bulk transport, freight forwarding, and supply chain solutions across Canada and the United States.

As part of their growing Data and Integration team, Seaboard Armour Transportation and Logistics is seeking a Power BI Report Developer to design, develop, validate, and support trusted Power BI reports, dashboards, datasets, and analytics solutions across transportation, logistics, dispatch, billing, finance, safety, maintenance, customer service, and executive performance management. With a strong focus on report quality, performance, documentation, user acceptance testing, and adoption of standardized reporting practices, this role helps improve operational visibility, reduce manual reporting effort, and build a more mature analytics foundation for the business.

The BI Report Developer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, validating, deploying, and supporting business intelligence reports, dashboards, datasets, and analytics solutions that help leaders and business teams make better operational decisions. This role works closely with current BI Report Developers, business stakeholders, data integration resources, technical business analysts, and system owners to turn business requirements into accurate, trusted, and usable Power BI reporting. This is a hands-on opportunity to strengthen how business leaders and operational teams use data to make better decisions.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • BI Report & Dashboard Development: Design, build, test, publish, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports for various business areas. Create clear, accurate, and performant operational and executive reporting, including transportation KPIs like delivery, volume, revenue, billing, driver productivity, utilization, and customer service.
  • Data Modeling & Report Logic: Develop and maintain datasets, semantic models, measures, and business logic using DAX, Power Query, and SQL. Collaborate with users to define KPI logic, calculations, filters, and standardize report definitions. Ensure documentation and traceability.
  • Data Validation & User Acceptance: Support data validation and UAT for new or updated reports. Compare outputs with source systems, legacy reports, and business standards. Investigate discrepancies, document outcomes, and help build confidence in BI tools.
  • Performance & Reliability: Optimize report performance, queries, models, and visuals. Monitor for issues and collaborate with database teams to enhance access and reliability.
  • Documentation & Governance: Document report details, maintain inventory, version control, and follow BI standards. Align with approved KPI and ownership definitions, reducing reliance on undocumented sources.
  • Business Engagement & Support: Gather requirements, translate questions into actionable reports, offer training, and support users to improve dashboard understanding and adoption.

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience developing BI reports, dashboards, analytics, or data visualization solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI, including report development, data modeling, DAX, Power Query, and dashboard publishing.
  • Experience with Azure data platforms, Databricks, Fabric, SQL Server, data warehouses, or Lakehouse environments.
  • Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases.
  • Strong understanding of data validation, report testing, and business requirements gathering.
  • Ability to translate business needs into clear reporting solutions.
  • Experience optimizing report performance and troubleshooting refresh or dataset issues.
  • Strong documentation skills, including KPI definitions, report logic, data sources, and validation notes.
  • Ability to work with business users, technical teams, and leadership stakeholders.
  • Experience modernizing reports from Excel, SSRS, or legacy reporting tools into Power BI.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication experience supporting executive dashboards and operational KPI reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple reporting priorities while maintaining accuracy, documentation, and business alignment.
