Venor is proud to partner with GeoSpectrum Technologies on their search for a Senior Software Developer to join their team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
GeoSpectrum Technologies is a Dartmouth-based engineering and technology company specializing in advanced underwater acoustic systems. Since 1994, they have designed and manufactured innovative acoustic components, transducers, and end-to-end sonar solutions for clients across defence, ocean science, maritime surveillance, and energy.
Built on a strong culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and innovation, GeoSpectrum offers the opportunity to contribute to complex, real-world technology from concept through delivery while working alongside experienced engineers and technical professionals.
As a Senior Software Developer, you will design and deliver scalable, high-quality software that supports and operates GeoSpectrum’s integrated sonar products. Working within an established cross-functional Scrum team, you’ll help translate complex technical requirements into reliable software solutions while contributing to architecture, development practices, testing, mentorship, and continuous improvement.
This is an onsite position based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
The Opportunity
This role is well suited to an experienced software developer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, taking ownership of meaningful projects, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
You’ll contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing improvement. Beyond hands-on development, you’ll also provide technical guidance, mentor other developers, and help strengthen development standards and product quality across the team.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design, develop, and implement scalable, maintainable software solutions for complex technical applications.
- Lead the delivery of significant features, projects, and technical initiatives from requirements through completion.
- Apply strong technical judgment to architecture, design, and implementation decisions.
- Balance short-term delivery priorities with long-term product quality, maintainability, and operational reliability.
- Identify and manage technical risks throughout the development lifecycle.
- Gather, analyze, and refine technical and business requirements independently.
- Develop software that delivers measurable value while meeting established quality standards.
- Collaborate with product managers, technical teams, business stakeholders, customers, and external partners.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mentor developers through coaching, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance.
- Support onboarding, training, and professional development across the development team.
- Contribute to continuous improvement across development processes, testing practices, team effectiveness, and product quality.
- Work independently while managing competing priorities in a collaborative Agile environment.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

- Familiarity with testing frameworks and tools such as ctest, pytest, JUnit, Behave, Squish, Mockito, or similar.
- Proficiency with debugging tools, Git or similar version control systems, and modern software development lifecycle practices.
- Experience with CI/CD principles, strategies, and implementation patterns.
- Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
