Venor is proud to partner with our client, Grieg Seafood, in their search for an Assistant Site Manager.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Site Manager, the Assistant Site Manager is responsible for all farm operations including feeding, animal husbandry, maintaining contractor relationships and security of fish stocks and coordinating and directing work crews. 

Creating a positive constructive culture is a core requirement for all leaders at Grieg Seafood. Participation in the development of core values and strategies to ensure that these are broadly adopted is required as is the active utilization of tools developed by Grieg Seafood to foster a high performing team. 

The Seawater Assistant Site Manager leads a team of one or more Aquaculture Technicians.

Responsibilities: 

As a key member of our production management team, you’ll play a crucial role in promoting health and safety within the workplace while upholding rigorous biosecurity standards. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of operations, including the use of biosecurity products, overseeing capstan and crane operations, and ensuring the integrity of circle pen rigging. You’ll be instrumental in escape response and prevention planning, as well as in the meticulous management of feed delivery, storage, and sampling procedures.

In this role, you’ll oversee feeding practices and participate in fish health sampling, fish transfers, and weight sampling. You’ll also be responsible for planning and implementing harvests, managing large vessel docking, and coordinating the delivery of smolt stocking inventory. Your expertise will be essential in administering medicated feed and executing treatment procedures.

Your duties will include inspecting and changing nets, liaising with feeders daily, and conducting thorough system inspections. Additionally, you’ll monitor plankton levels, develop response plans, and ensure that the plankton timeline and readiness are maintained. You’ll also contribute to our predator avoidance strategies and oversee recycling procedures, all while working closely with the team to maintain the highest standards of production management.

Talent Management:

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring that our Human Resources practices, policies, and procedures are consistently followed, while fostering positive and enduring relationships with all employees. You will collaborate closely with the Human Resources team to ensure that all employee training and education are current, regularly updated, and continuously improved. Additionally, you will be responsible for preparing and implementing staff performance reviews, facilitating staff development, and setting clear objectives.

Your leadership will extend to training, developing, mentoring, and coaching junior team members, ensuring that staffing levels remain efficient and productive. You will also be instrumental in modeling and promoting the company’s “ways of working” across your team, aligning with Newfoundland’s core values to cultivate a positive and constructive workplace environment. Furthermore, you will hold responsibility for the safety of all site staff, ensuring a secure and supportive environment for everyone.

Qualifications: 

  • Prefer Diploma or Degree in Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources or Fisheries Resources Management and must have a minimum three years’ recent hands-on Aquaculture experience.
  • Proficient in use of FishTalk or similar fish health management software;
  • In depth knowledge of all company policies, procedures and government regulations;
  • Able to train Aquaculture Technicians to company Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Ability to understand and direct plans in support of FCR and Growth Performance;
  • Strong leadership skills;
  • Excellent Project Management skills;
  • Physically fit;
  • Ability to problem solve;
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong report-writing skills;
  • Computer proficiency;
  • Proficient math skills;
  • Valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions:

The Seawater Assistant Site Manager works eight consecutive 10 hour work days and get six days off before returning to work.
