Venor is proud to partner with our client Arctic Wolf in their search for a Chief Architect. Monitoring over 200 billion security events daily, the Arctic Wolf Networks is a cybersecurity platform that helps small and mid-sized organizations to detect and respond to cyber threats. Built on an open XDR architecture, the platform collects and enriches endpoint, network, and cloud telemetry, and then analyzes it with multiple detection engines. Machine learning and custom detection rules then deliver personalized protection for your organization.

As Chief Architect at Arctic Wolf, you lead the overall architectural and technical vision at Arctic Wolf. In this role, you will lead the Architecture team working closely with product management and R&D to build and own the architectural strategy for Arctic Wolf overall and to ensure the technology stack can achieve the company goals. The Chief Architect influences the industry in general, creating new models and technologies to advance the domain. You influence the work of all R&D, and Arctic Wolf’s technology strategy and vision, and will be responsible for developing high-performance architects, guiding and coaching other staff members and senior leaders across the organization. You develop and provide the overall architecture strategy, vision and direction to all of Arctic Wolf and represents the architecture to executive management.

You consistently work with abstract ideas and assess intangible variables across the business, identifying and evaluating fundamental issues, and providing strategy and direction. You are a key influencer in research, innovation, and growth strategies, with a deep understanding of the overall product and S2 functions, and partner with executive leadership to provide alignment with industry trends, business strategies, and the company’s goals. 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Owning the overall technical and architectural vision at Arctic Wolf.
  • Aligning architecture needs with the strategic direction and business needs of Arctic Wolf.
  • Leading the Architecture team to solve complex problems and resolving architectural decisions with informed design choices.
  • Representing and socializing our architecture to executives, vendors, stakeholders, and staff throughout Arctic Wolf, and external communities.
  • Analyzing, vetting, and recommending, acquisitions, vendors, designs, technologies, 3rd party tools and integrations, and developing POCs and prototypes.
  • Providing insight and expertise into current and emerging industry trends in their area of expertise to promote new ideas, innovate concepts, and resolve critical issues.
  • Working with abstract ideas and intangible variables, identifying and evaluating fundamental issues, and providing strategy and direction.
  • Developing high-performance architects within the organization.
  • Providing technical oversight, guidance, and coaching to architects, product management, developers, and engineers. 
  • Ensuring that our software meets all requirements of quality, security, modifiability, extensibility, etc. 
  • Contributing to all levels of the architecture applicable to their realm of expertise. 
  • We are an innovative team that focuses our research on R&D projects. Often, we evaluate new software and tools, proofs-of-concept, and hands-on prototyping. We investigate solutions, look at the trade-offs, and lay the groundwork and architectural strategy. The team also works closely with product managers and R&D to help us succeed together. We value a culture of sharing, so architecture work is peer-reviewed and discussed with other architects to discuss tradeoffs and communicate ideas.

About You

You’re an experienced industry leader who oversees creative architecture research or industry-recognized advanced product development and understands that erroneous decisions will have a long-term effect on the company’s success. You are an experienced mentor across multiple domains, consult with and provide guidance on advanced technical issues to leadership, and are recognized as a technical leader whose knowledge, ideas, and critical thinking impact the organization. You have designed and built massively successful projects in the industry. You influence the entire organization, and it extends throughout the industry. You are comfortable coaching architects and developers and growing a team of high-performance individuals and have a proven history of communicating technical ideas to executives and across an organization at different technical skill levels.

Required skills and experience:

  • Proven history of technical leadership of successful projects, as well as some lessons learned from failures. 
  • Broad knowledge of the current industry and emerging technologies, to compare and contrast against, and innovate upon these technologies. 
  • Broad experience in technical architecture, system architecture, solution architecture, and enterprise architecture.
  • Some experience in software development with Golang, Python, Java, or a similar high-level language.
  • Mastery of technical details, best practices, and design patterns across multiple domains.
  • Proven History of making and defending, effective decisions using data and research, and accepting feedback. 
  • Proven history of explaining technical concepts using audience-specific language for audiences with different technical skill levels. 
  • Previous security experience is preferred but not required. We provide all the cybersecurity training you need during onboarding and on-the-job training.

Security requirements

  • Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with AW’s Information Security policies, standards, processes, and controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Arctic Wolf business information assets.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and an employment verification as a condition of employment.

The interview process is approximately as follows:

  • Phone pre-screening: A recruiter contacts you to briefly discuss your work history and provide an overview of Arctic Wolf. Approximately 30 minutes.
  • Culture and technical pre-screening: A team member conducts an interview to learn more about you and provide more information about your potential role on the team. Be prepared to talk about past projects and career goals. Approximately 1 hour.
  • Face-to-face interviews: Several team members conduct two interviews to learn more about you and provide more information about your potential role and team. Be prepared to collaborate on a technical problem and talk more about past projects and your career goals. Approximately 1 hour per interview.
