Established in 1980, Coady Construction & Excavating Ltd. is a leading heavy civil infrastructure construction company in Newfoundland and Labrador, specializing in marine infrastructure applications. The company’s dedication to quality and safety has made it a trusted partner for completing heavy civil infrastructure projects safely, on time, and on budget, contributing to the province’s infrastructure development.
Reporting to the President, the Controller is responsible for the oversight of multi-company financial accounting. This includes ensuring the prompt delivery of management reporting, such as monthly income statements, job costings, cash flow forecasting, and business KPIs. The Controller also oversees and manages all aspects of the group’s accounting cycle and financial operations, including AP/AR, payroll, and cash flow management. In addition to these responsibilities, the Controller is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures, project analysis, and the administration of group medical insurance, corporate insurance, and capital asset records/accounting.
The Controller also assumes a pivotal role in ensuring regulatory compliance, including the preparation and submission of HST, HAPSET returns, and annual tax compliance. The Controller is responsible for building a comprehensive year-end file for external accountants’ annual review engagements. This entails a thorough understanding of regulatory guidelines and internal control procedures, as well as the capacity to prepare accurate and detailed financial records. Overall, the Controller plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of financial and accounting functions, providing valuable insights into business performance, and promoting sound financial management practices.
As the ideal candidate, you have a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field, along with a minimum of ten years accounting experience, preferably within a growing project focused environment. Proficiency in Sage 50 and MS office, Microsoft Excel is essential, as well as a high degree of organizational, communication and managerial skills. The successful candidate will need to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines and work with all members of the team. A CPA designation and/or experience in a heavy civil construction environment is considered an asset.
