Venor has partnered with Parts for Trucks in their search for a Controller to join their Dartmouth accounting and finance team. The role has become open due to a new acquisition, succession planning, and rapid growth. This new development has created an opportunity and platform for a technically strong Controller to leverage their functional accounting, reporting skill sets, and abilities with a welcoming team who embraces efficiency and process improvements.

As the Controller for the business, you will take a hands-on approach, lead by example, and embrace and encourage the accounting team abilities, knowledge and skills. You will manage the day-to-day accounting operations for the 16 locations across Canada, oversee, support, and lead the financial consolidation process, and exercise your strong understanding of ASPE and years of operational and theoretical accounting experience. You will be responsible to manage and oversee all accounting and financial functions of the company, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, debit, credit, billings, intercompany transactions, general ledger, cash flow, inventory accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance and Accounting, you will be responsible for managing the accounting team, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial information, collaborating with operations and sales divisions to align synergies and provide strategic financial advice to senior management. You will exercise your accounting skill sets and ensure timely and accurate month-end closing processes while managing reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation. Amongst the general accounting responsibilities, you will utilize traditional accounting ratios and take an analytical view to improve variances, costs, and accounting methods. With this approach, you will complement decisions and changes as internal controls develop.

With a sharp eye and care for detail you will develop, maintain, and improve the internal and inventory controls with the intent to safeguard the company’s assets, mitigate risk, prevent fraud, and ensure compliance with the regulatory requirements.

As the Controller, you will act in an influential position as the overall organization experiences positive growth and development. With growth comes change, and will require the Controller on an ad-hoc basis to participate, collaborate, and lead new improvements and changes across the financial systems, policies, and procedures with the aim to improve efficiency and accuracy.. You will have the opportunity to leverage a forward-thinking, problem-solving, and inquisitive approach to drive efficiencies and improvements of internal controls.

If you are a designated CPA with management experience from leading small teams, exposure working in collaborative spaces with companies who have encountered growth through acquisition and new leadership, involvement with change management, an adaptable positive approach, familiarity to ERP Implementations, a strong traditional accounting foundation and are always searching for the why, or looking at what’s next while attaching reasoning behind each decision please reach out!
