What You’ll Do

The Controller is a hands-on role that partners closely with the CFO and owns ReelData’s day-to-day financial operations. This position is deeply involved in accounting execution, financial reporting, internal controls, and process improvement, with direct exposure to strategic decision-making and senior leadership.

The Controller will lead the monthly close, annual review preparation, inventory and costing in NetSuite, and help maintain strong financial discipline within a growing, VC-backed technology company. While the role includes some payroll, benefits, and people-related administration due to company size, the primary focus remains on financial operations and operational finance.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting:

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
  • Prepare accurate internal and external financial statements
  • Prepare ASPE-compliant annual financial statements and note disclosures
  • Maintain working papers and balance sheet reconciliations

Inventory, Costing, and Manufacturing:

  • Own inventory accounting in NetSuite, including item setup and landed costs
  • Manage annual physical inventory counts
  • Perform subledger reconciliations
  • Ensure accurate manufacturing and hardware costing
  • Support margin analysis

ERP Ownership:

  • Own ERP day-to-day administration
  • Maintain chart of accounts, locations, departments, and classes
  • Establish new workflows and processes as required
  • Continuously optimize workflows, reporting, and close processes

Tax and Other:

  • Prepare and file GST/HST returns
  • Support funding program reporting

Operational Responsibilities

Operational Finance:

  • Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Support cost tracking across R&D, trials, hardware, cloud compute, and deployments
  • Assist with margin analysis and unit economics as needed

Payroll and Benefits Administration:

  • Process semi-monthly payroll
  • Manage RRSP remittances and benefits administration

AP / AR / Cash Management:

  • AP processing, payments, and vendor administration
  • AR invoicing and collections coordination
  • Weekly cash reporting

Infrequent / Low-Volume Administration:

  • Onboarding and offboarding setup in Humi
  • Employee record maintenance
  • Office-related administration (access cards, mail)

What You Bring

Education & Experience:

  • CPA designation
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in technology, SaaS, or hardware companies preferred

Technical Skills:

  • Experience optimizing NetSuite ERP, ideally within manufacturing or inventory-facing environments, is preferred; however, candidates with experience in other robust ERP systems such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, JD Edwards, or comparable platforms are encouraged to apply.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with detailed, transactional data

Soft Skills:

  • Comfortable operating in a lean, fast-paced startup environment with evolving priorities
  • Hands-on and execution-focused, with a willingness to operate across levels and functions
  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort building processes where they do not yet exist
  • Able to balance attention to detail with pragmatism in a growth-stage organization
