Venor is delighted to collaborate with a well-established Atlantic Canadian construction multi-trade contracting company in their quest for a Controller to join their team. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will lead and mentor a small accounting team, while working alongside a progressive group of Project Managers and construction professionals. The Controller will oversee all aspects of the company’s operational accounting which includes ensuring timely financial management reporting, cash flow forecasting, and collaborating with the entire business on budgeting activities.

In addition to traditional accounting responsibilities such as AP, AR, payroll, cash flow management, budgeting, and internal controls, the Controller will be instrumental in creating efficiencies across all procedures after they have mastered the Controllership duties. Finding more effective ways to improve the overall workflow is encouraged through data-driven information.

This role involves managing assets, lease agreements, project analysis and costing.  Ensuring accuracy in all financial reporting, and analyzing financial data to identify trends, patterns, and discrepancies. The Controller will work closely with the Project Accountant, collaborating with the CFO and the President on strategic decisions as the business experiences exciting opportunities, including the implementation of a new ERP system.

To be considered for this role, the successful candidate will be required to have 3+ years of accounting experience within growing small to medium-sized construction, service, and/or maintenance project-driven industries where they have collaborated closely with growing teams. A bachelor’s degree in business focused on finance or accounting and a CPA designation is preferred. A data-driven mindset, strong financial reporting skills, and an adaptable and analytical attitude will be advantageous as the business is growing rapidly. Strong active listening skills and a confident but humble demeanor. The successful candidate will need to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic setting, with experience managing multiple priorities, meeting tight deadlines, and working with all members of the team.
