Venor is proud to partner with our client, Atlantica, in their search for a Director of Projects. For more than fifty years, Atlantica has been a leading provider of mechanical construction services for the industrial, commercial, institutional, and multi-residential sectors in Atlantic Canada. With a highly-skilled team equipped with the latest tools and leading-edge technologies, Atlantica controls the most crucial aspects of mechanical and electrical construction, from design and fabrication, to fire protection and maintenance services throughout the building’s life cycle.

In 2016, Atlantica was acquired by The Cahill Group, one of the largest multi-disciplinary construction companies in Canada. With operations from Eastern Newfoundland to Northern Alberta, Cahill is building the future of energy, mining, hydro, and social infrastructure on some of the largest construction and fabrication sites in the country.

Reporting to the Vice President – Atlantica, Cahill Maritimes & Lynk, the Director of Projects is the assigned Project Sponsor for a portfolio of multi-discipline projects (or may on occasion manage projects directly) across the Cape Breton region. The Director of Projects is responsible for the commercial, safety and technical success of assigned projects and the management of project resources including assignment of resources to project teams. S/he is also responsible for developing, educating and ensuring adherence to project management processes and systems. Project Managers report directly to the Director of Projects. The Director of Projects supports Business Development and Estimating resources to ensure success in securing future project opportunities. S/he is responsible for creating a positive work environment, developing, coaching, and motivating staff to excel in their roles, and developing an individual performance and professional development plan with each staff person in the department. This role contributes to strategic planning, attends management meetings and contributes to the overall strategic development for the Atlantica divisions.

The ideal candidate for this role will have post-secondary education in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant industry experience. A minimum of 10 years in the construction industry with 5 years in a leadership/supervisory role is required. The successful candidate will have knowledge of commercial equipment and installations, QA and HSE systems, along with familiarity with construction project management processes, systems and techniques. With their proven track record of success managing customer expectations and priorities, the Director of Projects will possess demonstrated capabilities in managing people and project resources. A strong team player, you are naturally collaborative with the ability to mentor and coach high performing teams.
