Director of Technology and Information Systems

Halifax, NS
Permanent

Venor has partnered with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) in the search for a Director of Technology and Information Systems to drive the strategic direction of IT infrastructure for the newly announced International Medical Graduate Assessment Centre.

The Assessment Centre is unlike any other model that exists in Nova Scotia or even Canada. It is an Orientation Program for physicians new to practicing medicine in Canada, an Assessment Centre, and a medical clinic. The three components are very distinct from one another and what makes this initiative unique. These efforts not only expand the physician workforce but also position Nova Scotia as a national leader in addressing healthcare challenges and fostering diversity within the medical community.

As the Director of Technology and Information Systems, you will provide strategic leadership for the development, implementation, and management of all technology and information systems for the Assessment Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful change in Nova Scotia’s healthcare landscape.

What you’ll be doing:

Strategic IT Leadership

  • Partner with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to establish and drive an IT strategy that supports CPSNS’s goals and priorities.
  • Evaluate existing tools and platforms, identifying opportunities for integration and streamlining to better meet the organization’s needs.
  • Ensure IT initiatives deliver measurable value to the business and align with regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Advise the SLT on emerging technology trends and their impacts on operations, including the use of AI

Assessment Centre Development

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and management of the IT systems for the new Assessment Centre.
  • Develop secure and scalable infrastructure to support operational and data governance needs.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to align technology solutions with the Centre’s objectives.
  • Implement AI and automation tools in both the clinical and office environments.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.
  • Ensure reliability and integration of EMR (MedAccess) and other clinical software and assessment tools.

IT Systems and Operations

  • Optimize the College’s existing IT systems, ensuring they meet current and future organizational needs.
  • Maintain the integrity, security, and availability of data and IT systems.
  • Work with departmental leads to identify technology needs and implement tools that enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Develop and monitor formal service-level agreements with IT vendors.
  • Develop and monitor cybersecurity protocols and threats.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Act as the primary liaison between IT and business units, ensuring technology solutions address operational and strategic requirements.
  • Provide regular updates and recommendations to SLT on IT performance, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive disaster recovery plan, ensuring critical IT systems are backed up and can be restored in the event of an interruption.
  • Conduct periodic assessments of business continuity plans to ensure readiness.

What we are looking for:

  • 15+ years in IT leadership roles, with a proven track record of developing and executing IT strategies in dynamic, growth-oriented organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Must have experience in healthcare, regulatory, or similarly complex environments.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, system integration, and data management.
  • Expertise in IT security, compliance, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive strategic initiatives, and foster collaboration.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a focus on engaging stakeholders and translating business needs into technical solutions.
