It’s an exciting time to work for the WCB as we undergo a significant business transformation and continue to evolve our service to better meet the needs of those we serve.
Reporting to the Director of Architecture, Cybersecurity, and Data Management, the Enterprise Application Architect (EAA) is responsible for establishing and managing the enterprise application architecture discipline. This includes developing and maintaining the enterprise architecture (EA) framework, associated standards, and a sustainable governance model to ensure ongoing alignment between IT and business objectives.
The EAA combines a deep understanding of the WCB’s strategic direction, business architecture, service environment, and evolving customer expectations with a strong knowledge of emerging technologies to enable business goals. The role includes oversight of EA governance, managing the Architecture Vision and principles, policies, standards, models, and processes across all architecture domains (Application, Data, and Technology) to ensure alignment with the WCB’s business strategy and operations. While the primary focus is on the evolution of the Application Architecture, the EAA collaborates with Data and Network Architects to maintain alignment across all domains.
The EAA plays a key role on the Architecture Review Board (ARB), working with architecture leaders and key stakeholders to execute the EA strategy effectively across the organization. This includes developing and evolving current, interim, and target state architecture models that prioritize reusability, sustainability, security, responsiveness to change, and innovation.
In collaboration with solution architects and business system analysts, the EAA provides solution oversight at the project level, ensuring that proposed solutions align with architectural vision, models, and principles.
EXPECTED RESULTS/OUTPUTS
The EAA is responsible for establishing and evolving the EA practice and framework, including the development of current state documentation and modeling interim and target state conceptual and logical architecture models. By analyzing technology trends, the EAA identifies potential impacts on the organization and provides architectural direction to capitalize on emerging opportunities, advising leadership on solutions that achieve business objectives and translating strategies into IT investments and technology migration plans.
The EAA defines and manages the EA repository, establishes documentation standards, and ensures the sustainability of repository processes. This role also oversees the organization’s Enterprise Disaster Recovery (DR) Architecture, ensuring solution-specific DR plans align with business recovery objectives (RTO/RPO).
The EAA supports the strategic planning process by contributing to business case development, evaluating costs, and ensuring architectural standards are incorporated. Additionally, the EAA provides architectural direction and deliverables for multiple concurrent projects, maintaining focus on objectives and timelines.
WORK GROUP COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The successful candidate brings expertise in defining Enterprise Application Architecture views and aligning them with data and technical architectures to support strategic goals. This includes defining architecture principles, standards, and blueprints (current, interim, and target states) and preparing application frameworks, integration models, and application portfolio assessments through collaboration with business stakeholders.
The EAA demonstrates knowledge across enterprise application, data, technical, and business architecture best practices, including evolving trends such as Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Business Intelligence (BI), Data Management, Web/Portal solutions, Security Frameworks, and Software as a Service (SaaS). With experience applying security best practices to application design, the EAA leverages innovation to drive results.
Advanced project management, organizational, and team-building skills enable the EAA to participate in IT strategic planning and develop new solutions. This role requires the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining focus on objectives.
