Venor is proud to partner with Techsploration in their search for an Executive Director.

Established in 1998, Techsploration is an award-winning, Nova Scotia-based not-for-profit that delivers hands-on, mentor-led programming to young women and non-binary youth in Grades 9 through 12. Techsploration mission is to increase the number of women and non-binary youth working in science, engineering, trades, and technology-related occupations by assisting those from these backgrounds to explore a wide range of career options in fields where they are significantly underrepresented. Their programming for young women and non-binary youth in Grades 9 through 12 creates awareness about the role of work in their lives and helps them understand the significance of math and science for their future careers. Techsploration programming is proven to work, as nearly 50% of their alumnae pursue careers in one of their four areas of focus!

Reporting to the Governance Committee, the Executive Director will lead the organization through ensuring high-quality program delivery, strategic direction, and financial stability. You will be responsible for all day-to-day functions of the organization, including championing a positive culture and a diverse and inclusive workplace. As the successful candidate, you will possess the leadership skills to guide the team, be collaborative with government and corporate partners, and work closely with the board of directors and sub-committees. You will be multifaceted with management, strategy, and fundraising, and possess excellent networking skills.

Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute diverse fundraising strategies, managing the budget for fiscal responsibility and sustainability
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with government agencies, corporate partners, and educational institutions, and collaborate with external partners to enhance program delivery and expand reach
  • Advocate for the organization’s mission, raising awareness of STEM and trades education for young women and non-binary youth, and representing the organization in public forums while engaging with the media
  • Work closely with the Board for updates, guidance, and alignment with organizational goals
  • Recruit, supervise, and support staff to foster a positive work environment, providing professional development opportunities where appropriate
  • Establish and implement systems for monitoring and evaluating program outcomes, using data for informed decision-making and program improvement
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, preparing and submitting regular reports to the Board, funders, and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the Board and stakeholders to develop and implement long-term strategic plans
  • Stay informed about trends, adapting strategies to evolving educational and non-profit landscapes

The successful candidate will possess a degree in a relevant field (Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, etc.) as well as experience in executive or leadership roles within non-profit organizations, educational institutions, or other related fields. Experience in designing, implementing, and managing educational programs, especially those related to STEM and trades with demonstrated success in fundraising, including securing grants, cultivating donor relationships, and diversifying funding sources would be considered an asset. Additionally, you have an eye for financial management, including budget development, monitoring, and fiscal responsibility.
