Field Safety Manager


On behalf of Nova Construction Co. Ltd, we’re searching for a Field Safety Manager to join their growing team. Based in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Nova Construction Co. Ltd is a driving force in the road building industry. Over the years, Nova has built, upgraded and/or paved more than 500 miles of highway in Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia for the provincial and federal governments. Nova Construction Company Ltd. provides a wide range of commercial and residential services – from aggregate, asphalt, bridges and concrete, to earth moving and road building.

The Field Safety Manager will join the safety team reporting directly to the VP of engineering. You’ll lead by example using a positive attitude and team approach to encourage and promote a safe work culture. You will have the opportunity to leverage your existing knowledge and proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement to be a part of Nova Construction Co Ltd’s success!

What You’ll be Doing:

  • Supervise and educate workers with the tools and knowledge needed to build and maintain safe work habits and practices.
  • Provide safety guidance and support to ensure health and safety related forms are understood and successfully completed on our electronic Health and Safety Management System.
  • Perform safety inspections for various construction projects in the field.
  • Deliver site specific safety orientations and assist in the delivery of safety meetings.
  • Assist in the completion of hazard assessments, worksite audits, incident investigations, traffic control plans, etc.

What We’re Looking For:

As the successful candidate, you have 5 -10 years of experience in the safety and construction industry. You have in depth of knowledge of provincial safety regulations along with demonstrated experience  creating and influencing positive change in the workplace to achieve successful safety standards/results. You have excellent communication skills with the ability to connect and build meaningful relationships with all members of the technical project team as well as influence and support others in a positive way to build a culture around safety.  This role requires the successful candidate to travel to various job sites across the province and can be based remotely.
