Jost Vineyards, Atlantic Canada’s largest vineyard, is located on the beautiful North Shore of Nova Scotia. Celebrating 40 years of crafting award-winning Nova Scotia fine wines, Jost Vineyards is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Financial Accountant to join the finance team in Malagash, NS.
Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of Accounting & Finance, this role offers broad exposure to the full accounting cycle, cost accounting in a manufacturing environment, and close collaboration with operational teams. Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing & Cost Accounting:
- Support standard cost updates, variance analysis, and production cost tracking.
- Manage inventory accounting activities, including cycle counts and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and integrity of data.
- Analyze material, labour, and overhead costs and report on variances.
- Prepare and review cost estimates for new or modified products.
- Contribute to gross profit and margin analysis and reporting.
General Accounting & Reporting:
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain complete, well-organized supporting documentation.
- Support AP, AR, bank, and credit card reconciliations, maintaining accurate records.
- Assist with payroll processing and related HR administrative tasks.
- Review and verify financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Support year-end preparation, GST/HST and Excise filings, and audit/review processes.
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve accounting-related questions and issues.
Operational Support:
- Assist with seasonal harvest reporting and other operational accounting requirements.
- Partner with production, procurement, and logistics teams to understand operational workflows and how financial data supports business decisions.
- Monitor purchase orders, work orders, timesheets, and inventory movements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Support compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing or operational environment
- Experience with Canadian tax regulations (GST/HST, payroll, etc.)
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and the full accounting cycle
- Proficiency in MS Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables considered an asset)
- Experience with Sage accounting software
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and apply sound judgment
- Curiosity, eagerness to learn, and a proactive attitude.
- CPA designation preferred (or actively pursuing)
- Exposure to cost accounting, inventory-heavy environments, or operational finance is considered an asset.
