Harbour Construction is an industry leading civil construction firm based in Dartmouth, NS. Harbour Construction provides a wide range of civil contracting services to public and private sector commercial and industrial clients. Reporting to the President, the Senior Estimator will play a leading role in providing the estimating services for a range of complex projects in several areas of Heavy Civil Construction such as Site Development, Municipal Water & Sewer, Hydro Infrastructure, Highway Structure, Bridge Construction and Construction/Rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects, including earthworks, utilities (emphasis on underground pipework), road construction, and infrastructure developments.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and drawings to develop comprehensive estimates.
- Evaluate material, labor, and equipment costs to ensure accurate bid submissions.
- Collaborate with project managers and subcontractors to gather relevant data and insights for accurate pricing.
- Prepare bid packages and submit proposals in response to tenders and drawings.
- Perform post-bid evaluations and revisions when necessary, maintaining ongoing communication with the project team.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations to ensure a complete understanding of the project scope.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, new developments, cost data, and innovations to improve estimating accuracy and project success.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in civil construction estimating, ideally in bidding underground pipework projects.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field (or equivalent related experience).
- Demonstrated understanding of estimating to lead the estimating for all company projects from start to finish including finding the tenders, knowing the requirements, and understanding the submission process.
- Excellent understanding of local construction practices and the technical requirements for civil construction projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction costs, contract documents, and construction processes.
- Proficient technology skills with civil construction estimating software’s.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with both internal teams and external partners.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines while managing multiple projects.
