As we expand, we’re looking for an experienced HSE Manager to enhance our strong safety foundation and further embed a safety-first culture across the company. This role provides an excellent opportunity for a proactive safety professional to build on our current program, drive improvements, and introduce new initiatives to adapt to our growth.

Position Summary:

The HSE Manager will be responsible for reinforcing and advancing our safety program, performing risk assessments, training team members, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in safety management within civil construction and the ability to inspire and guide a growing team toward operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance and Expand Safety Programs: Build upon our existing safety framework by introducing new safety practices, refining policies, and implementing additional protocols to keep pace with our growth and evolving projects.
  • Conduct Safety Audits and Inspections: Perform regular job site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards. Identify potential hazards and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Employee Training & Development: Lead training initiatives that reinforce our established safety practices, enhance knowledge of workplace hazards, and introduce best practices.
  • Incident Response and Investigation: Promptly respond to and investigate incidents, documenting findings, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct ongoing risk assessments on all job sites, identifying areas for improvement and applying risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety regulations and industry advancements, ensuring that our company remains compliant with local, provincial, and federal requirements.
  • Promote a Safety-Driven Culture: Act as a champion for safety, engaging employees at all levels to inspire buy-in from crews to foster a proactive, safety-first mindset throughout the organization while balancing empathy with assertiveness.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Maintain and enhance safety records, including inspections, incidents, training sessions, and corrective actions. Generate regular safety reports for management and contribute insights to safety meetings.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of safety management experience within civil construction, or related industry.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and best practices is preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of safety standards and codes, industry regulations, environmental policies, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of OHSA standards, risk assessment, and hazard mitigation specific to the heavy civil construction is considered an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and inspire teams.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and planning abilities. Proficiency in safety software and Microsoft Office Suite.
