Venor is proud to team up with our client, Saeplast, in their search for a Health, Safety & Environment Manager in Saint John, New Brunswick. The Health, Safety & Environment Manager will promote a culture where health and safety are values that will never be compromised.

You will train employees on Emergency Response Plans and conduct annual fire and incident response drills as well as conduct regular safety audits, coordinate & lead annual corporate safety audits. As the Health, Safety & Environmental manager you sit as the Co-Chair of the Health & Safety Committee, where you are responsible for developing agendas, leading meetings, and distributing reports. You can communicate successfully within all levels of the organization and interact with 3rd Party Vendors to ensure vendor qualifications and requirements meet standards. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Promote high safety standards and provide support on EH&S responsibilities with all employees
  • Conduct & Lead Risk Assessments, train others in the Risk Assessment process
  • Develop Safe Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for manufacturing & maintenance processes
  • Review, assess and work with team member to resolve Hazards, track progress 
  • Ensure compliance with corporate EH&S policies and provincial regulatory requirements
  • Act as the initial point-of-contact for regulatory inspections and/or follow up
  • Compile, review and analyze safety data
  • Develop, review and revise safety policies and procedures
  • Develop and foster employee engagement through safety culture improvement initiatives
  • Conduct incident and accident investigations; complete root-cause analyses to identify and implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Manage Return-To-Work programs through the Workers’ Compensation Program for injured employees to ensure practices are compliant with current regulations
  • Provide on-call support for emergencies and incidents at a 24/7 operation
  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly statistics or reports
  •  Develop and lead Plant-wide environmental and sustainability initiatives 
  • Assess and provide recommendations on tooling, personal protection equipment (PPE), etc.
  • Participate and coordinate safety improvement activities, such as, kaizen events, training/education courses 
  • Conduct Safety Orientations with new employees and contractors
  •  Maintain training documents and employee matrix

As the successful candidate, you have an undergraduate degree or related experience required with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the health, safety, and environment field preferably in a manufacturing environment. You have a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation, or equivalent, or willingness to attain. You have depth of knowledge of provincial safety regulations and worker’s compensation processes and a proven track record of continuous improvement and achieving results through the development and support of others.
