What You’ll Be Responsible For: As the Human Resource Consultant you will play an integral role in guiding and supporting the successful execution and delivery of key HR programs, processes, and policies. As the first point of contact for the HR department, the Human Resource Consultant will provide managers and staff with advice and support relating to a broad range of HR matters. You will provide support and coaching to department managers and supervisors on appropriate handling of employee performance management issues and application of progressive discipline approach. You will support managers and supervisors with appropriate tools to ensure performance management processes, including documentation, are followed and, as required, support Director, People and Culture by leading investigations and reporting findings regarding claims of employee violation of applicable corporate HR policies. You will develop, support, promote, communicate organizational initiatives, programs, events, and resources. As the Human Resource Consultant, you will support the recruitment life cycle; sourcing candidates for corporate, variable, and contract roles as required, including job postings, job fair coordination and support in administrative hiring processes where applicable. This role is a blend of HR administrative and operational functions aligned with more progressive Human resources responsibilities. Specific areas of emphasis are focused on policy implementation, employee relations, performance management, training and development, employee leave of absences and related return to work initiatives, occupational health and safety (OH&S), incident reporting and investigation and other related projects as required. This role not only supports the Director, People and Culture in progressively strategic and operational initiatives, but helps critically review and analyze existing processes, policies, and documentation to provide suggestions/improvements and keep relevant in current industry trends and evolving organizational goals/values. Candidate Profile: As the successful candidate, you have a University or college diploma, including an educational certificate in Human Resources Management, with 2-3 years of experience within the Human Resource Field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, and experience in a unionized setting is considered an asset. As the ideal candidate, you have demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures as it relates to sound Human Resources practice. Previous experience in recruitment, selection, and onboarding is required. You are knowledgeable with the NS Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant legislation, and have confident knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). You possess strong verbal and written communication skills, and are a confident public speaker. As the Human Resource Consultant you can manage tasks and have strong organizational skills. You can handle high-volume workloads within tight deadlines. In the workplace you are professional with strong interpersonal skills, and have a collaborative attitude with respect and discretion of private/sensitive matters.
