What You’ll be Responsible For: 

As the Manager, Marketing, Brand and Digital (MBD), you will be supporting the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia’s (WCB) vision, aligning your leadership, innovation and strategies with achieving our corporate goals. These strategies will encompass different areas of marketing, the service experience for workers and employers, the leveraging of new digital tools, and an ever-improving set of data, to drive behaviour change.

Reporting to the Director, Communications, Partnerships and Marketing, you will lead the Communications and Marketing team and oversee the WCB’s marketing mix, in partnership with our government colleagues, and other WCB jurisdictions where appropriate. While this includes oversight of traditional channels, you will work to change the way we market, with a view to thinking across the whole experience of those we serve, not just paid channels. In partnership with colleagues, you will introduce new digital, data-driven approaches and improve the ones we have today. Your leadership and operational plans will support WCB’s strategic goals while setting strategies, goals and objectives for the Communications and Marketing team.

These pillars define your approach and your long-term vision for WCB. You will work with your WCB colleagues to evolve the organization’s traditional marketing approaches to more innovative ways to reach those we serve based on data. This will be done through your current extensive knowledge in marketing professional practice standards, concepts and theories, and through your due diligence staying on top of marketing trends. 

You will also collaborate closely with the Manager, Communications and Partnerships. This means authentically engaging our audiences and using the digital landscape to be innovative in your approach. Methods used today may be more traditional, but we want you to break through the noise and leverage those colleagues that have unique skill sets and share the vision for a digital and authentic customer experience. Bringing your head and heart to embrace challenging situations will be crucial in this role. These pillars will be embedded in your work, the way you lead and inspire your team, and your collaboration, both internally and externally. 

As a leader you will plan for the future to anticipate the potential impact of emerging trends to the workplace and to WCB. Building strong relationships with WCB’s diverse stakeholders and with our employees will help foster ongoing trust, psychological safety and mutual respect. Developing trust will go hand-in-hand with collaborating, sharing specific, concrete and clearly communicated goals, approaching situations from an organization-wide perspective, and recognizing you and every employee you work with will not have all the answers. You will be an influencer, embodying an open culture of innovation, where embracing experimentation and mistakes, identifying barriers, changing awareness, and continuously learning alongside your team will be at the forefront. 

As the ideal candidate, you have a degree in public relations, marketing, health promotion or business with a marketing specialization or a related field. You also have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in progressively senior roles with leadership accountabilities. Experience in a similar role in the public sector would be an asset.
