Venor is pleased to partner with our client, Champlain Seafoods in their search for a Payroll Specialist based in Moncton, New Brunswick. Champlain Seafood focuses on Atlantic lobster and snow crab sourced from the Canadian Maritimes and American Northeast. 

As the ideal candidate, you are someone who is a flexible team player and pride yourself on being a dependable, self-starter with the ability to work independently. You have demonstrated knowledge of change management and ability to develop and implement strategies, along with the proven ability to build strong working relationships. You have a high level of professionalism with effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborating with the accounting team and the company’s employees to finalize and process payrolls, including verification of payroll information for the purpose of ensuring accurate distribution of funds.
  • Overseeing the accurate and timely processing of year-end payroll, including T4s, taxable benefits, CRA submissions, dues, etc.
  • Performing cross-checking on payroll data integrity.
  • Assisting in the implementation and roll out of the new payroll system software.
  • Creating process documents to ensure best practices and consistency within the organization.
  • Implementing and updating the system on any newly negotiated terms in collective agreements related to payroll/benefits.
  • Reconciling account balances for the purpose of maintaining financial accuracy and complying with related policies, practices and/or regulations.
  • Administering the compensation and benefits programs.

As the successful candidate, you have a degree or college diploma in a related field (i.e., Business Administration, Human Resources, or Accounting), paired with at least 5 years of relevant working experience. As the Payroll Specialist, you have knowledge of audits, income tax forms, health benefits programs and retirement plans. You are someone who has strong technical capacity, with knowledge of payroll, internal controls, and management. You possess strong system skills and have the ability to leverage payroll processing services ADP (Ceridian, etc.) and Microsoft Excel. Benefit experience is also considered a strong asset.
