NSHEPP is one of the largest registered pension plans in Nova Scotia, serving over 34,000 active members and 15,000 retirees, with over 90 participating employers at 150+ sites throughout Nova Scotia.
On behalf of NSHEPP, we are recruiting a Pension Officer(s) to administer Pension Benefits.
Reporting to their respective manager the Pension Officer(s) will be part of a team that is responsible for all aspects of administering the Plan, including analyzing the annual pension data, producing annual pension statements, reconciling contributions paid, calculating member benefits and preparing benefit entitlement statements/documentation, and communicating, educating and instructing members who are leaving employment.
The Pension Officer will provide superb customer service to members by providing plan information and by ensuring that the information is completed accurately and within specified timeframes in accordance with rules, regulations, and department service standards. The Pension Officer will help other team members to complete all aspects of preparing documentation for pension processing related to pension benefit entitlements and marital breakdowns in accordance with the plan text and legislative requirements.
The ideal candidate will have completed post-secondary education in a related field and preferably have obtained a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist designation or have experience in payroll & benefits. Experience in defined benefit, pension plans and possessing knowledge of the NS Pension Benefits Act, government legislation and Canadian financial services would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will be proficient with MS-Office Software programs and will be able to learn new systems quickly. They will have a strong attention to detail and demonstrate strong analytical, math, time-management, and customer/client service skills. The Pension Officer is someone who possesses appropriate sound judgement and behavior required to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment and is also someone who can work well as part of a team, takes initiative and is self-reliant.
