Venor is proud to partner with Maritime World Logistics Inc (MWL) on their search for a Project Coordinator to join their team. MWL is a non-asset-based transportation service provider offering innovative solutions for overly heavy, high, and wide cargo. MWL services customers in a variety of industries including; construction, oil and gas, mining, power generation, and other industries that support large-scale capital projects. MWL is a growing company that works outside of the ordinary world of in-gauge and containerized cargo.

MWL is looking for a highly organized and curious individual interested in making a meaningful contribution to all facets of our projects. This role blends project coordination and on-site operations including on-site project-specific work, bidding on contracts, and executing operations on successful projects. As the Project Coordinator, you will be working as part of a team under the supervision of senior leadership personnel who will help navigate the overall transportation and provide opportunities to grow your career.

The successful candidate will gain exposure to the world of heavy lift/break bulk cargo and work with stakeholders involved in the supply chain including but not limited to railroads, heavy haul and legal load trucking, terminal operators, stevedores, and crane companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating packing lists and determining the best and most efficient methods of transport.
  •  Contacting supply chain stakeholders as described above to determine capabilities and obtain rates for their services.
  • Consolidating rates from various stakeholders for review and comparison to select the best solution.
  • Develop load configurations for transport (with the guidance of a supervisor).
  • Make recommendations to senior leadership on potential solutions.
  • Coordinate documentation, ensuring relevant stakeholders have the proper paperwork to complete their scope of work.
  • Physically inspect and photo document cargo upon arrival to Halifax to check for damage and report to customers.
  • Coordinate the load out of cargo between carriers (truck or rail) and terminal operators.
  • Attend load-outs and photo document terminal operations, including methods of lashing to truck and rail.
  • Ensure lashing applied secures the load, without damaging the cargo.
  • Follow up with transportation carriers to provide customers with daily progress reports.
  • Help document and control costs to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.
  • Some elements of travel will be required.

Experience and Qualifications:

As the successful candidate, you are a sufficient self-starter who is highly organized with a strong ability to multitask. You are a safety-focused individual passionate about building relationships with all stakeholders on a project including blue and white-collar individuals. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the transportation industry with strong communication skills as you will be coordinating with various levels of management and project members both onsite and in the office.

A technical diploma or engineering background is not required but is considered an asset due to the nature of the work. Freight forwarding or transportation experience along with project management or coordination experience is considered an asset. Successful applicants must have their own vehicle to travel to on-site locations in Halifax.
