Venor is proud to partner with a confidential, growth-focused bioindustry organization in its search for a Project Director based in Nova Scotia. This accomplished leader will oversee the planning, development, and delivery of large-scale production facilities across Canada, beginning with a flagship project in Nova Scotia. This is a pivotal leadership opportunity, playing a central role in scaling national operations and shaping the organization’s broader North American project portfolio.
What you will be doing
The Project Director will have end-to-end responsibility for the full project lifecycle—from feasibility studies and permitting through engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning. Success in this role will depend on the effective leadership of EPC partners and the ability to ensure seamless alignment across technical, environmental, commercial, and sustainability objectives in line with their strategic vision.
This position calls for a leader who combines deep technical expertise and disciplined project execution with a strong commercial acumen. The ideal candidate will be comfortable navigating complex, multi-stakeholder environments, working collaboratively with engineering consultants, government authorities, technology providers, and local communities to deliver projects safely, sustainably, and on schedule.
What we are looking for
- 10+ years of experience leading large-scale industrial, energy, or infrastructure projects, with exposure to sectors such as bioenergy, pulp & paper, chemicals, or other process-driven industries.
- Proven success delivering complex EPC projects, including contract negotiation, execution, partner oversight, and performance management in demanding delivery environments.
- Strong commissioning and start-up leadership, with demonstrated experience guiding projects through ramp-up and seamless handover to operations, ensuring operational readiness and long-term performance.
- In-depth knowledge of industrial project development, including engineering processes, permitting, plant design, and regulatory compliance.
- Sound commercial and financial acumen, with a solid understanding of project economics, cost control, and risk management, and the ability to align technical decisions with business outcomes.
- Experience with biomass, biocarbon, or thermal conversion technologies is highly desirable.
- Outstanding leadership and communication skills, with a proven ability to engage diverse stakeholders and lead cross-functional, multicultural teams effectively.
