On behalf of Hatch Venor is actively seeking a Senior Buildings Mechanical Engineer to join their Halifax, NS office. 

What you’ll be doing:

The candidate will be responsible for project and team management and senior mechanical systems design support of industrial and commercial building projects as part of a multidisciplinary team. 

Key Responsibilities: 

 • Lead teams of engineers, EITs, and designers on complex and challenging projects related to the mechanical systems design of buildings in industrial settings for new construction as well as repair, rehabilitation, or modification of existing construction throughout the project lifecycle 

• Lead or actively participate in meetings with clients, contractors, and other consultants 

• Coordinate workload for mechanical engineering staff working on several projects in a positive environment through open communication with the team 

• Mentorship and support of Mechanical Engineers, Engineers-in-Training, and Designers 

• Coordinate with engineers and designers of other disciplines 

• Perform site visits as required for senior engineering assessments of mechanical buildings systems, client engagement, and contractor coordination 

• Participation in formal engineering review processes 

• Identification of project risks and liabilities and develop strategies to minimize them 

• Participate in the estimation of project budgets and costs 

• Ensure the integration and implementation of safety and integrity principles in Hatch’s structural documentation 

• Ensure adherence to all engineering standards and internal procedures as part of design activities 

As the ideal candidate, you have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, combined with 10– 20 years of experience in mechanical building design. You have strong knowledge of design codes and standards including NBCC, NECC, NPC, NFPA, and relevant ASHRAE and CSA Standards. As well as experience in designing for HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection in buildings. 

As a successful candidate, you have the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary project team and possess excellent communication and organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
