FireFly Metals Limited (“FireFly”) is an ASX listed emerging copper-gold developer in Canada advancing the high-grade Green Bay Copper-Gold Project. The company has recently undergone rapid transformational expansion driven by its success at Green Bay.
Located in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Green Bay copper-gold project has a current resource of 59Mt @ 2.0% for 1.2Mt of contained copper equivalent metal and rapidly growing. Additionally, the project has a fully accessible underground, associated surface infrastructure and processing facility with a replacement value exceeding $250M.
About the Role
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all personnel working on site. This role involves implementing and overseeing safety protocols and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries on site, both surface and underground. The Safety Manager along with the safety team is responsible for fostering a culture of safety on site and ensuring that all safety measures are continuously enforced to protect both the workers and the environment.
Key Accountabilities:
Main duties and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Safety Management and Compliance – Ensuring that the mine site adheres to all relevant local, provincial, and federal safety regulations and industry standards.
- Providing outstanding leadership and mentoring with Company policies and procedures.
- Provide input relative to the companies’ goals and an establishment of a long-term safety culture.
- Develop and monitor safety and loss control budgets and safety statistics to facilitate continuous improvement and cost-effective activities.
- Ensure there are regular safety training and drills for all workers to make sure they are familiar with safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and the use of safety equipment.
- Ensure any accidents or near-misses are investigated to determine their cause and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Ensure adherence to FireFly Metals safety policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control continuous improvement of safety policies, procedures and practices.
- Participate and administer the joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Provide advice, resources and assistance to contractors in the interpretation of company systems, policies and procedures; and support the EMS through ongoing document review and revisions as required.
- Regular safety visits/checks/audits to all areas of site including underground ensuring that all safety measures/standards are followed.
- Conduct, contribute and facilitate occupational health risk assessments across the business while ensuring safety risks are reduced.

Key Skills/Qualifications/Experience/Knowledge
Education
- Tertiary/post-secondary education from a recognized institution in OH&S or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Experience
- 8+ years of experience in a similar position or related field is preferred.
- Experience in mining related risk management and hazard assessments
- Experience working underground is preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of provincial and federal safety regulations and best practices in the mining industry
- Strong oral and written communication skills (able to effectively communicate safety procedures, expectations, and protocols to a diverse workforce)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to safety management
- Excellent computer skills (Ability to set up safety systems and analyze data)
- Strong decision-making skills in high pressure situations to mitigate risk and respond to incidents.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage safety initiatives, and meet deadlines.
Work Environment/Location
- The position is a residential role based at the Ming Mine site.
- Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to relocate, however, exceptions for alternative work schedules will be considered.
- Travel may be required for meetings with government regulators, conferences and key stakeholders as required.
