Position Overview
As the Senior Steel Detailer, you will work in the drafting and engineering team and have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects including structural steel buildings, miscellaneous steel (stairs and railings), bridges, and renovations. The Senior Steel Detailer plays a crucial role within the multidisciplinary team including detailing support, checking, and project coordination with the Engineers, Project Managers, and/or Customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Engineers, Project Managers, and customers/clients to translate customer information into Marid produced drawings allowing efficient shop fabrication and erection of steel.
- Develop and prepare fabrication and erection documents in Tekla Structures including erection drawings, advance bill of materials, shop details and CNC data for shop equipment.
- Review all contract data and drawings provided by our customers for each project and translate the info onto Marid drawings so that our shop and site employees clearly understand scope of work.
- Apply knowledge of construction methods and building practices along with understanding Marid’s preferred methods of fabrication and erection.
- Support the fabrication and erection team with troubleshooting on daily challenges.
- Maintain proper document data control and contribute to the ongoing efforts of quality assurance.
Technical Requirements
- Successful completion of a Civil Engineering Technology program or equivalent.
- Minimum five years of 3-Dimensional modelling (Tekla) experience.
- Minimum of ten years steel detailing experience.
- Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
- Applied knowledge of basic bolted & welded connection design, and welding symbols.
Experience and Qualifications
- Strong time management and the ability to work on various structural and miscellaneous projects at any given time depending on size of project and complexity.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills are a requirement.
- Ability to draw sketches or details on paper is an asset (for checking and communication purposes).
- Ability to work with math concepts such as percentages, ratios, areas and volume.
- Familiarization with industry standards (CISC and AISC).
- Knowledge of the National and Provincial Building Codes is an asset.
