Water Treatment Manager

Venor is proud to partner with our client, Cermaq Newfoundland, in the recruitment of a Water Treatment Manager for their Marystown operation. 

Reporting to the Freshwater Production Manager, The Water Treatment Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the De-nitrification System (DNS) within recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). This position ensures optimal water quality, fish health, and full compliance with environmental standards. The role involves coordinating waste management activities, supervising staff, and collaborating with other departments to maintain stable, sustainable, and high-quality conditions for aquatic life.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations and production at a state-of-the-art DNS facility
  • Proactively manage water quality to support freshwater production needs
  • Operate and interpret precision instruments, electronic sensors, and monitoring systems
  • Interpret complex HMIs, user manuals, technical drawings, and line diagrams
  • Work with system controls, VFDs, PLCs, and automation systems
  • Align wastewater management activities with fish production plans and priorities
  • Apply advanced knowledge of salmonid water quality parameters and nitrogen cycle processes
  • Diagnose technical and mechanical issues and coordinate with maintenance teams
  • Supervise DNS staff to ensure safe, efficient operations and PPE compliance
  • Collaborate with production teams on wastewater management strategies
  • Maintain accurate operational, administrative, OH&S, inventory, and compliance documentation
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, biosecurity protocols, SOPs, and regulatory standards
  • Follow Workplace NL and government regulatory requirements
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Aquaculture, Chemistry, or a related discipline
  • 2–5 years of experience in aquaculture water treatment, RAS operations, or wastewater management
  • Proven supervisory experience in technical or operational environments
  • Hands-on experience with biological filtration systems
  • Strong working knowledge of nitrogen cycle processes
  • Skills/Abilities: Proficient with computers, strong communication and problem-solving skills, and a valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent).
