Shirley brings with her extensive leadership experience in Human Resources. She spent the past twenty years of her career as a member of the Executive Team and Vice President of Human Resources for The Cahill Group, a Platinum Club Member of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.
Her background spans all aspects of Human Resources and Labour Relations, providing leadership and guidance to the C Suite and building an HR team and HR programs from the ground up in a family owned business.
She has been actively involved in offshore oil & gas projects in Newfoundland & Labrador, onshore oil projects in Alberta, mining projects in Labrador, and start-up construction and fabrication projects in NL, NS, NB, AB, SK and ON.
Shirley believes that innovative Human Resources strategies are crucial to the success of any business and has led the HR strategy for major business mergers and acquisitions.
She believes that relationships are important and when dealing with people, it’s not what you do, it’s how you do it.
Shirley has served on several boards, including the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Newfoundland & Labrador (CPHRNL, formerly HRPNL), Women in Resource Development Corporation (WRDC), St. John’s Board of Trade, and The Iris Kirby House. She is currently serving on the HR Committee for the 2025 Canada Summer Games.
Shirley earned her CPHR designation in 2005 and received the Award for Human Resources Excellence in the National Professional Practice Assessment through the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA).
In her spare time, Shirley enjoys travelling, golfing and spending her time with her family.
