Venor is proud to partner with CGIS in their search for an Applications Specialist to join their team in Vancouver, BC. CGIS was founded in 1980 and continues to be an industry leader in Severe Service Valves. With over 40 years of extensive experience, CGIS has played a key role in sculpting the valve automation industry thanks to their industry veterans and their dedication to continuous learning.

In Application Engineering, the application dictates the valve. This mindset allows CGIS to offer customized solutions to clients across the globe in in the Mining, Pulp & Paper, Power, Oil & Gas, Refining, and Water/Wastewater industries. Reporting to the Inside Sales Lead, the Applications Specialist will bring their valve and automation knowledge to address customers’ valve and automation problems through our Engineered Solutions to ensure a meaningful customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a combination of Streamline and Engineered Solution type client requests, and when applicable Project Solution and Service requests
  • Offer specialized solutions to problematic services by evaluating the application, understanding the process and the client’s needs to find the right valve for the job
  • Provide technical arguments along with quotations to educate and inform customers of the lasting solutions CGIS can provide, through the Engineered Solutions business stream
  • Enter quotations into SAP (Utilize SAP strategically)
  • Understand the life cycle of orders to provide accurate quotes ensuring proper margin, lead time, and quality of product selected to win quotes
  • Respond to customers quickly with support and advice to be their trusted valve partner for severe service, control, automation, and on/off valves
  • Be extremely knowledgeable about current inventory, valve types, and manufacturers
  • Coordinate with manufacturers to get technical, pricing, and delivery needs in a timely manner
  • Manage project proposals and assist project team with execution
  • Build meaningful customer relationships and develop a deep understanding of key customers’ needs
  • Work closely with the Technical Sales Representative to ensure the strategies to market are understood and executed for each customer
  • Seek opportunities to convert inquiries to other business streams when applicable

Technical Knowledge:

  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering or related work experience
  • Previous relevant experience with Industrial Valves
  • Working knowledge of QA/QC requirements; Destructive and nondestructive testing requirements
  • Formal sales experience or training and proven ability to build strong customer relationships to help close sales
  • Experience in the markets of Mining, Oil and Gas, Oilsands, Pulp and Paper, Hydrometallurgy, Power, Water, or Wastewater will be considered an asset

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop meaningful relationships with customers, vendors, and colleagues
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated experience providing top quality customer service
  • Strong business acumen; the “know” how makes a difference
  • Strong technical aptitude with attention to detail and excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Tenacious with a demonstrated ability to drive and support a successful sales culture
  • Natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge and continual learning
  • Prior experience with SAP is considered an asset

We offer a competitive compensation package including a salary range of $88,000 – 98,000
