DevOps Engineer / SRE

Halifax, Nova Scotia
Permanent

Our client, Elfster, is the world’s #1 Secret Santa generator and social gifting platform. As seen in the New York Times, USA Today, and Forbes, among others, their platform has grown into a year-round service dedicated to helping you organize wish lists for all of your holidays, events, and occasions while also providing great gift inspiration. Think of Elftser as your personal shopper, calendar keeper, and gift exchange organizer all wrapped into one. They make gift exchanges fun, easy, and social—and they love doing it!

Elftser has experienced increased consumer demand in addition to its already strong year-over-year growth. While headquartered in California, they are looking to add to their development team in Atlantic Canada.

On their behalf, we are seeking a self-driven and well-rounded DevOps Engineer / SRE. The ideal candidate is technically sound, calm, hard-working, has an eye for detail, and plays well with others.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Work with the principal architect and lead the design, development, and evolution of Elfster’s deployment platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with other members of our engineering team to help them go fast in a safe, reliable, and repeatable manner.
  • Report on and drive continuous improvement in the availability, reliability, resiliency and durability of Elfster’s systems and data.

What’s in it for you?

Opportunity: in this newly created role, you’ll be building on an established & strong DevOps foundation alongside new greenfield projects in security, observability, and more

Meaning: Elftser’s platform makes holidays and other gift exchanges extra joyful so families and friends can spend less time organizing and more time celebrating

Flexibility: This is a remote-friendly, work-from-home position, but you’ll get big bonus points if you’re Halifax-based and able to attend periodic meetups with the local team

What we’re looking for:

  • 10+ years of industry experience
  • 5+ years of experience working in the AWS cloud
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines in GitHub, Azure, GitLab or similar
  • Expertise in managing infrastructure as code with CloudFormation, CDK, and/or Terraform
  • Orchestrated containers using ECS, EKS and/or self-managed Kubernetes
  • Tamed the beast that is AWS IAM roles/policies/permissions
  • Experience with other AWS services related to security, observability, etc.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
