Adsum for Women & Children is a registered charity with a long history of working with individuals and families who experience poverty, homelessness, and marginalization. We believe that everyone has the right to a safe and secure home. Our mission is to lead change to end homelessness through housing, services, and advocacy.

Adsum operates a large shelter at the site of a former hotel in Dartmouth. There are 185 clients of all genders staying at The Bridge. More than 100+ people work there under employment contracts with Adsum, providing support and various services 24/7/365.

Duration 

A one-year commitment to end in March 2025, with the possibility of extension based on business needs. 

The Opportunity 

Venor is proud to partner with Adsum in their search for an Office & Payroll Administrator to join their team. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with the Shelter Director as well as Adsum’s Executive Director. 

You will be at the heart of Adsum’s operations, ensuring seamless office management and providing crucial support to the team. From maintaining confidential employment contracts to processing accounts in compliance with financial policies and procedures, every day will offer exciting challenges and opportunities for growth. You will order office furniture, supplies, and equipment as needed, verifying records, and processing payroll for 100+ employees at The Bridge on a biweekly basis. This will require close collaboration with the Shelter Director and two full-time schedulers.  

Additionally, you will be responsible for resolving disputes over payroll issues, performing monthly reconciliations of credit cards issued to Bridge staff, managing petty cash and conducting monthly reconciliations. Reconciliation of accounts and financial report preparation will also be present when supporting management. You will also have the opportunity to provide valuable data and input through budgeting and forecasting activities amongst other tasks requested by the Shelter Director. Contributing to the financial integrity and smooth operation of the not-for-profit will be important as you play a key role in ensuring seamless payment processing for all payables through RBC Pay Edge, while verifying, classifying, computing, and approving payables, and receivables data. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a collaborative environment. 

About You

As the ideal candidate, you have a Business degree or diploma, complemented by at least two years of experience specializing in payroll and accounts payable tasks. Experience with ADP payroll will be a big bonus. You are comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and have a sharp eye for detail. Whether working independently or as part of a team, you thrive in both settings. While having prior knowledge of basic accounting principles is necessary, your experience in the not-for-profit sector will be a true asset.

Rate of pay

Salary is based on credentials, and experience and within a range set by the organization from $70,000 up.
